I'm Not Born to Be a Champion [Sports]

*Coming soon: Super Superstar [Tennis]. Please add it to your collection! XOXO! *Search “Su Yu” in WeChat stickers for a surprise =w= Before he was reborn, Su Yu was watching a livestream featuring Pei Dingshan, the national team’s gold-medal-winning sprint coach. A scene from ten years earlier surfaced before his eyes. After signing up for his school’s summer camp, he had been sent to train with the provincial track and field team. Pei Dingshan, then an assistant coach with the provincial team, had picked him out. [Su Yu? You have a lot of talent. Would you like to train with me as a sprinter?] Having seen firsthand during summer camp how hard professional athletes had to work, he had turned him down without a second thought. But later, when he got great results in sprint tests, when his classmates casually complimented his speed… he couldn’t help regretting his decision. He had once worked up the courage to go back to the provincial team and seek out Pei Dingshan, asking if he could still train with him. But the answer he got was: [It’s already too late.] Then, in a moment of distraction, he found himself standing at the provincial team’s entrance again, luggage in hand. Back at the time he first entered the provincial team with his summer camp group. Su Yu knew that even with a second chance at life, he still had all sorts of flaws. But he wanted to find out: if he gritted his teeth and kept moving forward, how far could he go? He thought he could do it. Su Yu is a prickly little wolf cub (?) who thinks he isn’t a genius, even though he’s exceptionally gifted, and gradually grows into a supreme powerhouse under Pei Dingshan’s guidance. Years later, in an interview: Reporter: “As the genius who led Chinese sprinting onto the world stage…” Wolf cub: (glares sourly) “I’m not a genius.” Reporter: “…” Wolf cub: (glares sourly) “Everyone’s got about the same level of talent, and they’re all very capable. I’ve just been luckier.” Reporter: (wipes face) (inner monologue) Fine, you’re the genius, so you get to decide. If you say everyone’s talented, then everyone’s talented. Other athletes: (…) (inner monologue) Please, big shot, stop twisting the knife! QAQ A ruthless, iron-blooded genius coach, the top, VS a hardworking sprinter who grits his teeth and thinks he isn’t that much of a genius, but is actually a powerhouse, the bottom. Reading notes: * Set in a fictional parallel world where same-sex marriage is legal. XOXO! * Older top; the age gap is eight years. There will be no romance before the bottom comes of age. * Not enough of a golden finger? He’ll make up for it with hard work. (Though, actually, he’s still an incredibly gifted genius, just not self-aware.) There will be setbacks along the way, but he’ll keep racing toward the top. * The theory is based on reference books, all kinds of academic papers, and a bit of making things up. Ahem. Core message: As long as you keep moving forward with determination, life holds infinite possibilities.
