As a medium, Alexei had been taught since childhood about the three essentials his colleagues in another country used to exorcise ghosts: Taoist robes, talisman papers, and peachwood swords.
Even after growing up and learning more, all he discovered was a few extra magical implements he couldn't identify. So he was convinced that his colleagues in East Asia, or at least in China, came fully equipped for communicating with spirits and exorcising ghosts.
That was until he watched Yu Yuan punch a ghost so hard it hit the wall.
Alexei: "..." Times have changed, old man.

Even after growing up and learning more, he found out that they were all human and had to eat. But surely they would at least be refined and well-mannered, chewing slowly and savoring every bite, in keeping with the reputation of a land of etiquette.
That was until he watched Yu Yuan polish off a whole roast suckling pig in three minutes, then raise her plate and shout, "Another one!"

They're both powerful, but the female lead is clearly stronger (Doge).
The main characters are very idealized, ridiculous, and satisfying. The logic is pretty much dead.
Contains lots of random bits of trivia that may or may not be true. Don't believe any of it; just enjoy the ride.
