Su Xiazhi stayed up all night binge-watching a drama. When she woke, she had become the "Crown Prince" of the Yu Kingdom. Su Xiazhi was a young woman, but she had no choice but to take the throne as a man.
The great clans had monopolized not only land and the economy, but also politics, interfering with imperial authority. Prince Rong and Prince Ning of the Su Yu Dynasty were both eyeing the throne. The Yu Kingdom lay in the Central Plains and was constantly invaded and encroached upon by neighboring countries and peoples. The treasury was broke, and the emperor had no money either. What a perfect storm of internal and external troubles.
Fortunately, the 818 Master System could offer Su Xiazhi some comfort. Give someone a fish and you feed them for a day; teach them to fish and you feed them for a lifetime. Skill learning and talent discovery, unlocked!
Well, what's done is done. Su Xiazhi decided to take a look at her private treasury and use it to help the Great Yu. But... why was this estate so huge, and why were there so many handsome men? Their eyes were all so fierce, though. What, she also had a Pavilion of Treasures? And other estates, too? Seeing the common people displaced while she owned countless mansions felt far too sinful. Well, the former Crown Prince had been extravagant, arrogant, and cruel.
No, she had to find a way to give away every last coin! Medical research, the imperial examinations, education at the Imperial Academy, water conservancy, agricultural technology, border defense and military affairs: she had to get them all going... Perhaps the Crown Prince had become far too proper, because the ministers thought that if he could change his preferences and take a Crown Princess, she would become the future empress. So they all recommended their own daughters as potential consorts.
A short scene:
"Father, why would a girl like me take another girl as my Crown Princess?"
"But everyone knows you're a man! For the sake of Yu's foundations, Crown Prince, just choose some virtuous and gracious young woman from a great clan!"
"But everyone knows I prefer men. Why are you choosing female consorts for me?"
"To silence the ministers and quell the ambitions of the neighboring nations!"
"Even if I take a female consort, I'm still not a man. How am I supposed to produce heirs for the Su Yu Dynasty?"
"That's why you need to keep up your preference for men. The Zhou Cong'an you admired before seems quite suitable to me. And as for the other men in the Huicui Garden, if you like them, you can take them in!"
Theme: We must look to the stars while keeping our feet on the ground, and devote ourselves to building our country
