A stench that never faded hung over the desolate harbor town.
Forgotten by an era overflowing with gold, its people were steeped in decay, cut off from all contact with the developed world. Corpses of aquatic creatures lay everywhere on the filthy streets. Steam technology, which sustained the entire empire and was practically treated as divine revelation, was barely present in this run-down, backward, isolated town. The only trace of it was a collection of gears and machines that managed to keep the harbor's central district supplied with electricity. Beneath the machine's savage, grinding roar, every resident of the entire harbor was trapped in deafening noise.
This ruined corner of the world was packed with gifted people rejected by society.
And here, in such a place, there was a small tavern that offered a unique kind of pleasure. It was nothing like the pleasure of drugging yourself numb, only to wake up feeling emptier and more miserable, nor was it like using violence to distract yourself, which only left you with bruises and pain. All it took was a glass of liquor mixed by the proprietress herself to rid you of all the foul emotions weighing on you lately and leave you feeling lighter than ever before.
This phenomenon was repeatedly denied, then repeatedly proven. As almost everyone in the harbor became intoxicated by it, the scent of tobacco intertwined with herbs that had always lingered in the little tavern gradually spread across the whole harbor.
On a pitch-black night with nothing at all out of the ordinary, a bewildered girl with unusual hair and eyes had just arrived in the harbor. She, too, was captivated by the intoxicating night and followed the enchanting scent, hoping to find the mysterious tavern...

I felt it was a little slow. I took a look at it not long after it opened last year and decided to keep half a book to read. But after so long, it only had less than 100,000 words. It was really sad. I had to endure it for another two months and then I finished it in one go.
