One night, Yin Lu was reading the novel After Tomorrow when she was struck by lightning and transmigrated into the book. The task the System gave her was to save the male lead's mentally ill rival. The second male lead, Qiu Ren, suffers from paranoia. He and the heroine, Duan Rui, were childhood friends. His privileged family gave Duan Rui a great deal of warmth when she was young, but she saw it all as friendship. In college, she fell in love with another boy. Afraid her boyfriend would misunderstand, she cut ties with Qiu Ren. His mind grew more and more twisted, and after accidentally killing Duan Rui, he came to understand himself amid the torment of his illness.
A week after transmigrating into the book, Yin Lu used underhanded tactics to play the hero and rescue Qiu Ren. But after less than a week together, she couldn't help grumbling to herself, "If it weren't for Duan Rui, who'd want you? And you're only the second male lead, for God's sake!"
During the time Yin Lu spent saving him, Qiu Ren gradually learned to adapt to modern society. In the final year Yin Lu stayed to keep an eye on him, he had no episodes, and her rescue plan succeeded perfectly.
After completing the task, Yin Lu returned to her real life. She had spent ten years in the novel, but only three months had passed in reality.
A year later, a disruption in the space-time continuum brought Qiu Ren to the twenty-first century where Yin Lu lived. Before he could adjust to his new surroundings, he saw Yin Lu. This time, there was another man by her side. Watching the faint dimples appear on Yin Lu's face, he gave a bitter smile. He had seen the note she left, hadn't he? Everything about him was virtual, and their meeting had been nothing more than coincidence.
"The shackles on me remain unbroken. I am still the unruly young man she wrote."
