The story is set in a modern society that differs a little from reality. Humans and monsters coexist. The monsters have founded the Mystical Creatures Organization (MCO), a monster alliance that maintains friendly relations with humans and helps them keep society peaceful and stable. Its main role is to handle monster-related affairs in the human world, though it also helps humans hunt down especially heinous fugitives.
The human side has established a special bureau staffed by half-monsters, which works in partnership with the MCO.
The story unfolds against this backdrop.
