Life as a Game Developer in Another World

Game designer Luo Lin dies from overwork after grinding through 996 workdays, then transmigrates into a fantasy world as the great demon lord of a dungeon. Once upon a time, this dungeon was famous far and wide. Countless heroes had met their downfall here, and the monsters had made a fortune just by fleecing them. But in Luo Lin's era... My lord, times have changed! Sword and sorcery have faded into history, while the Industrial Revolution is just getting started. Young humans would rather work on factory assembly lines than take up swords and become heroes. The dungeon stands deserted, the monsters can't fleece any heroes, and they're so poor they can barely afford to eat. Faced with a crowd of monsters crying, "My lord, we're hungry! Please feed us!" Luo Lin thinks long and hard, then decides to return to his old line of work. He calls an all-hands meeting and delivers an important speech: "Dear colleagues, our company has hit a growth bottleneck. Our old business model no longer meets market expectations. We must enter the blue ocean of underserved markets, leverage our existing resources to empower and upgrade our products, connect the industry ecosystem, and build a closed business loop..." The monsters listen in a daze. "My lord, what does that mean?" The newly appointed demon lord translates: "This dungeon is doomed, so we're going to start making something nobody in this world has ever seen: games! You're all founding members of the company, so it's time to contribute! Millennia-old skeletons, write the scripts. Sirens, make the music. Abyssal succubi, handle publicity. Slimes, all of you go learn 3D modeling! We're going to conquer the world with games!" Not long afterward, a company called Dungeon Entertainment burst onto the scene with an astonishing new product: Magic Games. The simple folk of this other world had never encountered schemes like "random gacha draws with a guaranteed rare after ten pulls," "click here to get a Dragon-Slaying Saber for free," or "the base game is free, but the DLC costs a fortune." And so... "Why haven't I gotten a single SSR in a thousand pulls? I think the drop rates are rigged!" "Hee hee hee, my daughter looks so cute in that pretty little dress!" "It was nighttime when I started the game. How is it morning already?" Luo Lin only meant to help his monsters find new jobs, but before he knew it, he'd founded the world's number-one game company, built a dream theme park famous across the continent, and launched the most popular Magic Games tournament. He even saved the world with games along the way, and was hailed as "the great modern hero"... Luo Lin: "How did it come to this? I'm just a lousy game designer..." [Reading Guide] 1.
