Legend has it that in the Great Wilderness there is a tree called the Suoluo. It grows back after being felled and can reach between Heaven and Earth. It is said to have once been the tree in the moon. The Ten Shamans, Wu Xian, Wu Ji, Wu Pan, Wu Peng, Wu Gu, Wu Zhen, Wu Li, Wu Di, Wu Xie, and Wu Luo, ascended and descended by it, proclaiming the gods' will, conveying the people's wishes, and gathering all kinds of medicine to prolong people's happiness and extend their lives. Later, Heaven and Earth were separated, and the Ten Shamans vanished without a trace.
During the prosperous reign of the Great Yu dynasty's Shengde era, a descendant of Wu Xie suddenly appeared, presenting a branch of Suoluo to the emperor. The emperor was delighted and ordered him to make an elixir of immortality. When the elixir was ready, he used Suoluo as a ladder and ascended to Heaven. Ten years later, another descendant of Wu Xie appeared. He shook mountains, uprooted trees, and returned to the moon. From then on, nothing more was heard of Suoluo.
Records of the Strange, Volume One: Suoluo
Notes:
1. This story is set in a fictional world. Its cultural background is inspired by the early Tang dynasty, but it is not intended as historical research.
2. The heroine is an honest woman with social anxiety. The hero is a ruthless careerist who seems mild-mannered but is crazy underneath. No golden finger, and this is not a power fantasy.
Theme: Desire is tempting, but don't overindulge.
