"Hey! That's my spot!" A child came running over the fallen osmanthus blossoms, tattered petals caught in his hair and mooncake crumbs clinging to the corner of his mouth. "Hey, you up there! That's my spot, did you hear me?"
In the darkness, Jiang Qi could only make out a silhouette. Judging by his height and build, he looked like a boy about Jiang Qi's age. The wind howled, and the words that reached him came in snatches. Jiang Qi couldn't make out what he was shouting, but it looked like he wanted to climb up and sit there.
"What did you say? Do you want to come up?" He then waved the greasy hand holding his mooncake. "Come sit with me!"
Whoosh!
The child gave a light push with his foot and flipped up. His clothes fluttered, shaking the tree, and osmanthus blossoms drifted down in a flurry, like fireflies streaming through the dark night.
Jiang Qi reached out and gently picked the withered petals from his hair. The fragments floated away on the breeze, and the fireflies across the sky seemed to fly together toward the brilliant, silvery river of stars.
