Dusk Hues

As the river's waters fall, the evening colors the sky. Alone, I descend through the cold mist.

The bells and drums slowly mark the long night, while the bright river of stars waits for dawn.

Several years later.

By the sea.

At dusk, clouds of rosy sunset filled the sky, setting the horizon and the sea ablaze. A breeze blew in from beyond the distant horizon.

Jiang Mu lowered her eyes and fiddled with the poster in her hands, folding and unfolding it over and over. After several rounds, she finally broke the stillness of dusk. "Why did you happen to meet me that day?"

It was unclear whether she was murmuring to herself or asking Chi Geng.

Chi Geng narrowed his eyes and thought for a long time before answering Jiang Mu's question. "Maybe it was fate."

A gentle breeze from the sea stirred Chi Geng's hair, and the last glow of sunset spilled onto the beach.

Chi Geng took a drag of his cigarette and slowly exhaled. Then he said,

"Maybe falling for you was fate, too."
