The Glazer family, the Manchester United owners whom fans called "vampires," had cumulatively siphoned more than a billion pounds from the club. The team hated them to the core. Then, in 2014, an event that sent shockwaves through the football world took place: a mysterious Chinese tycoon bought all of the Glazers' shares, and that damned family finally got out!
After an utterly disastrous season, Manchester United finished seventh in the league, and the head coach resigned, taking responsibility. This was in no small part due to the previous year's disastrous transfer dealings by the team's CEO, Woodward.
Woodward, the unlucky man who had only been there for a year, was fired too. His replacement, however, made the Manchester United fans, who had been celebrating, angry all over again: Lu Yan, an inexperienced young man who got the job solely because he was the new owner's son.
His father gave him a huge transfer budget, so Lu Yan didn't need to do much preparation to achieve his transfer goals. But as he set to work, fate seemed to play a little joke on him.
[All funds confiscated. Host, please complete missions to earn a transfer budget.]
Lu Yan racked his brains to complete one bizarre mission after another.
"Fly to France and scout a young player?"
"Go to Milan Fashion Week to attract Messi?"
"There's no way I can do this one. What general manager goes out onto the pitch to play a match?!"
Years later, Manchester United's players asked their boss how he'd managed to pick them out, one by one, from all over the world and bring them together. Lu Yan smiled faintly and said, "If I told you I could see your potential just by looking at you, would you believe me?"
