Zhong Yu was an illegitimate son. With low status, he would stop at nothing to seize the family fortune. Later, he even used a woman to secure his position.
The woman was beautiful and obedient, but a little clingy. She kept saying she was there to repay a debt of gratitude. A boy saw a small fish dying on the shallows. Feeling sorry for her, he walked to the water's edge and returned her to the sea.
So that was the debt she had talked about.
