In the ancient kingdom of Attica, a prophet declares that the sea angel will overthrow the dynasty. The royal family therefore sends General Temelis to the heroine's birthplace, Acalon Island, to kill the sea angel. Every year, the island holds a coming-of-age ceremony for fifteen-year-olds and chooses a sea angel from among them. That year, the heroine, Matia, becomes the sea angel and is hunted by General Temelis. Thus the story begins...
Matia leaves her home on Acalon Island, both to escape and to find the prophet who foretold the kingdom's downfall. She reaches the mainland and, by chance, saves General Temelis. To repay her, the general takes her along. Afraid of being recognized, Matia adopts the name Kula, and everyone takes her for a boy.
