After a fire broke out at a chemical plant, Ye Xiaorou was assigned by her TV station to train with the Beiqing Fire Brigade for three months.
That very night, her foot got stuck in the drain outside her home.
Chen Xuchuan received the emergency call and rushed over with his gear. When he saw the scene, he couldn't help letting out a quiet laugh.
After he successfully freed her foot, Ye Xiaorou smiled sweetly at him without a second thought. "Thank you, Uncle."
Chen Xuchuan froze for two seconds, then tugged at the corner of his mouth. "You're welcome."
On the day she reported for duty, Ye Xiaorou watched Chen Xuchuan pull her luggage and say he would be taking care of her for the next three months. She obediently said, "Thank you, Captain Chen."
"Call me Uncle. Helping people is what I do."
"..."
To get through those three months unscathed, Ye Xiaorou became Chen Xuchuan's little sidekick, always buttering him up at every opportunity.
To everyone else in the brigade, it looked like a classic case of a woman pursuing a man.
One day, during a break in training, a teammate asked nosily, "Xuchuan, is Xiaorou trying to get with you?"
Chen Xuchuan glanced at Ye Xiaorou, who was resting nearby, and smiled dismissively with his hands in his pockets. "She's just a kid."
As the end of the three months drew near, his little sidekick changed. She became cold and distant.
After evening training, Chen Xuchuan cornered Ye Xiaorou against a wall. She looked up at him, confused, and stammered for a long time before managing to ask, "Captain Chen, what are you doing?"
Chen Xuchuan gritted his teeth and lowered his voice:
"You have no sense of responsibility."
You flirt with me and then run away.

Song Xingmian had been by Gu Pei's side for three years. She never caused trouble and had obedience and thoughtfulness engraved into her bones.
Gu Pei's friends all said she was the one who had stayed by his side the longest.
One time, after getting drunk, Song Xingmian heard Gu Pei call her "Xiaomian" in a voice so tender it could melt her heart.
She was overjoyed, thinking that her long wait had finally paid off.
Until
Yu Mian, the woman Gu Pei had always loved, appeared.
Looking at Yu Mian's similar features, she finally understood that she'd been someone else's substitute all along.
Gu Pei would leave her curled up in pain from her period on a rainy night, then hurry off to comfort Yu Mian, who was afraid of thunder.
But she was afraid of thunder too.
Song Xingmian gathered herself, threw away everything that reminded her of Gu Pei, and asked to break up.
Watching her walk away without looking back, Gu Pei threatened, "If you leave, don't come back."
2.
As the heir to the Gu Group, Gu Pei was undoubtedly the center of attention. No one dared go against him.
Until he saw Song Xingmian again at an investment conference. She was wearing a red dress and affectionately linking arms with the man beside her, treating Gu Pei like he wasn't even there.
Gu Pei blocked her way and demanded, "Come back."
Song Xingmian's eyes curved in a smile, but her gaze was icy. "I'm sorry, Mr. Gu, but what are we to each other?"
Gu Pei laughed instead of getting angry. "You tell me, Mianmian."
3.
Later, rain poured down in torrents.
Gu Pei knelt on the ground, drenched from head to toe.
His peach-blossom eyes gazed devotedly at the graceful silhouette by the doorway.
Song Xingmian was indifferent. She held up her umbrella, walked straight past him, and got into another man's car.
She never once looked back.
The hem of her long dress brushed across the back of his hand. Gu Pei turned around, but the car had already driven away.
He gave a self-mocking smile. He didn't move or chase after her, just stayed there on his knees.

[Marriage first, love later / He has a secret crush on her]
1.
After her stepmother nearly sent her to bed with a sleazy business partner for the umpteenth time, Su Pan got married to a man she'd only met once.
The man was refined and self-possessed, with looks that put every male celebrity in the entertainment industry to shame. Most importantly, he also needed someone to fend off his parents' constant pressure to get married.
They hit it off and quickly registered their marriage.
Outside the marriage registry, the man held out his hand in a friendly gesture, speaking in a gentle voice. "I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you, Mrs. Ye."
"?" Staring at this legendary figure in the investment world, Su Pan was completely dumbfounded, but she shook his hand anyway.
Why did she feel like she'd just gotten on a pirate ship?
2.
The public described Ye Yunzheng as a young achiever who acted swiftly and decisively, with ruthlessness as his defining trait.
Su Pan believed every word.
Yet after they married, Ye Yunzheng was gentle and considerate. When the temperature dropped, he reminded her to put on warmer clothes. When it was hot, he told her to drink more water. He never gave her the cold shoulder... He was practically the textbook example of a perfect husband.
Su Pan boldly took to her social media alt account to defend Ye Yunzheng.
A netizen arguing with her sent over a video of Ye Yunzheng swiftly taking down a company with thunderous force. In the video, Ye Yunzheng was stone-faced and intimidating, and the person filming was shaking.
Su Pan: "..."
Why did her husband have two completely different sides?
3.
One day, while Su Pan was tidying up old things, she found a stack of yellowed postcards in the study.
[201×.8.5, Su Pan, happy birthday.]
[201×.10.30, Su Pan, good luck with your performance.]
[201×.6.12, Su Pan, congratulations on graduating.]
A photo slipped out from among the postcards. On a lush green lawn, a girl in a graduation cap smiled with her lips slightly raised, while a boy watched her from afar.
There was no one else in the photo.
On the back was a single sentence: The wind is strong today.
The wind is strong today, Su Pan. I like you.
