Legend has it that the Chosen Maiden is born once every five hundred years, and a plum-blossom mark appears on her at the full moon. Whether the mortal world is at peace or in turmoil, if she wishes to remove the mark and cast off her duty to protect all living beings, she must cross the Ghost River along the border of the Netherworld Kingdom, enduring the pain of thousands upon thousands of evil spirits gnawing at her bones and flesh beneath the water.
In truth, after more than ten thousand years of human civilization, the so-called demon race has long since disappeared. The Jade Luan plum-blossom hairpin and the Chosen Maiden no longer hold any practical significance. She is merely the center of a faith, as well as of desire and self-interest. Over the past ten thousand years, only two women have been clearly identified as the Chosen Maiden, but each ultimately became a casualty of politics and war.
After more than ten thousand years, Luo Qianxue is the third Chosen Maiden to be discovered and confirmed. Will the same fate await her? Can she ultimately break the seal that has endured for ten thousand years, change her fate, and find true love?
Theme: A person lives a hundred years, and eight or nine things out of ten don't go as hoped. Whether to fight or let things be is all up to fate...
