A Hundred-Year Promise

After her father remarried, Yun Zhi became the person no one in the family wanted.

On her way home from school, some older students stopped Yun Zhi and demanded protection money. A boy dressed in fiery red burst into her world with a slingshot in hand. “I'm Xu Xiaoyang. I'll protect you from now on.”

She lived in a cramped bedroom. Her stepmother falsely accused her of stealing money, and her father blindly took the stepmother's side, letting her tear up the only photograph Yun Zhi had of her mother.

On a night when rain poured down, Xu Xiaoyang covered her ears for her. “Little Cloud, the sun will rise again tomorrow, so don't be scared. Everything will get better.”

Yun Zhi loved to draw. Her family scolded her for neglecting her responsibilities, but Xu Xiaoyang was the only one who said nothing and used his pocket money to buy paper and paints. He knocked on her window and called, “Great artist, remember to give me your autograph someday!”

From then on, every person Yun Zhi painted was him.

Later, Yun Zhi forgot him.
