[Little Nun x Disgraced Crown Prince]
Blurb
After an accidental fall from his horse leaves him with both legs broken, Yun Jian becomes the first crown prince of Great Wei to be stripped of his title.
Afraid that his son will fall ill from depression, the emperor grants him permission to leave the capital and recuperate in the water towns of Jiangnan.
In the third month, the spring mountains smile, and the water towns are alive with new grass and birds in flight. Sitting in his wheelchair, Yun Jian gazes absently at the scenery on the water. With nothing left to think about, he pushes his wheelchair toward the river, intent on ending his life.
A sudden splash sounds behind him. Yun Jian turns and sees a little nun crouching by the water, washing her face.
The spring sunlight falls on the little nun's round, bald head. She plunges into the water, then pops back up, tilting her face to the sky. "The water is so cool, and life feels so good!"
Yun Jian watches her and grips the armrests of his wheelchair, letting the river soak his shoes and socks.
After washing her face, the little nun opens her eyes and sees a handsome young gentleman in a wheelchair.
They stare at each other, then remain silent for a long while.
"Little Master, can you chant sutras?"
"I can."
"Then, could you chant a passage for me?"
That spring, Wu Zhen met Yun Jian by the water. He asked her to chant sutras. His features were refined and his eyes clear, yet there was a shadow in their depths.
So Wu Zhen chanted for him. When she finished, she told him that Buddha saves all living beings and can dispel every hardship in the world.
Yun Jian listened attentively. The shadow in his eyes seemed to fade.
Then one day, Yun Jian showed no reaction after hearing the sutra. Wu Zhen was puzzled.
Yun Jian said, "Perhaps Buddha can't save me. How about you save me instead?"
Wu Zhen answered without a second thought, "How could I do that?"
Yun Jian: "..."
The little nun wasn't nearly as easy to woo as he'd imagined.
Reading Notes
- The male lead is disabled, but will recover later. Outwardly proper and courteous, inwardly sensitive and dark. He falls for the female lead early, but his inferiority complex leaves him to admire her in a dark, twisted way.
- The female lead is warmhearted, optimistic, and resilient, but lacking in romantic feelings. She falls in love very, very, very late.
- No political intrigue. A pastoral setting, a slow and sweet romance.
