Blurb fail: The top is not the village chief's son, but the landlord's little mutt.
Lin Sheng woke up one day to find himself transmigrated into a period novel as a minor cannon-fodder character: an unpopular educated youth sent down to the countryside.
In the original story, the minor character met a rather tragic fate. Spoiled by his stepmother's suffocating upbringing, he was arrogant and domineering, and had offended plenty of people over the years. He made so many enemies that one misfortune after another befell him.
First, someone attacked him from behind, and he fell beside a river in the village where hardly anyone went. Soon after, rumors spread that a hooligan from the cattle shed had defiled him. Misfortune kept piling up, and in the end, he died in an accidental fire.
After transmigrating into the book, Lin Sheng somehow became the village chief's daughter-in-law. He was already bewildered by this, but then things got even more confusing.
Because this daughter-in-law was a man in women's clothing.
At the same time, Lin Sheng suddenly realized that he seemed to be missing part of his memory. He racked his brains trying to recall it, but all he could remember was surging lake water and the icy sensation of death.
As he spent time with them, he realized that everyone seemed to be hiding something: his sharp-tongued mother-in-law, his frail and distant husband, his sister-in-law who loved putting on an act, and his seemingly fair-minded father-in-law, the village chief.
They seemed like a fairly harmonious family, but each person appeared to be guarding a secret.
Then, when an unexpected flood struck, Lin Sheng caught a glimpse of the secret behind this plot that had veered wildly off course.
It turned out his so-called husband was nothing of the sort. They had not even filed a marriage application.
Later, after facing several rounds of rumors and rescues, he realized that the little mutt who was willing to live in the cattle shed seemed to be the only bit of warmth in his life when he was lost and lonely.
Note: Pay close attention.
The protagonist, who is the one being pursued, has no relationship whatsoever with the village chief's son. They have neither a marriage certificate nor any physical contact. His romance with the top only begins after he learns that he and the village chief's son are not married. We live in a harmonious society, and fictional characters are no exception.

Coming soon: My Brother's Boyfriend Is So Pretty. Please add it to your favorites.
Li Lan has always had a terrible memory. He often mixes up people's names and calls them the wrong thing, causing all sorts of embarrassment. But there was one person he never forgot.
That person was his cousin's boyfriend, Gu Jin.
They first met on a train bound for City C. At the time, they were both under ten.
Seeing the grimy little kid, Li Lan kindly offered, "Going to the bathroom? I'll take you."
Gu Jin lifted his eyes to look at the pampered young master before him and sweetly replied, "Sure. Thanks, big brother."
Their first friendship began in the restroom.
Li Lan: This little brother looks so pretty after getting cleaned up. I want to be friends with him.
Gu Jin: Is this guy an idiot? Can't he tell I'm pretending? He ruined my plans. I hate him.
A few years later, Li Lan, now a dashing young man, ran into Gu Jin again at a party.
Reunited with his old friend, Li Lan indignantly grabbed Gu Jin's hand and said, "Who's your boss? How can they hire a child laborer?"
Gu Jin glanced coldly at the little brat who had gotten him dragged back all those years ago and said icily, "Who are you?"
Their second friendship began at the police station.
Li Lan: This little brother is prettier than anyone else. I want to take him home and keep him.
Gu Jin: Why is this blockhead always so full of himself? I can't stand him.
After starting college, the dazzling young master often felt sad about how the pretty little brother had disappeared without a word. Then one day, he saw a familiar figure again. Just as he was about to go over and demand an explanation, his cousin walked over with an arm around Gu Jin's shoulders.
"This is my boyfriend. You have to call him big brother."
Li Lan: "Long time no see, little brother."
Gu Jin: "Who are you?"
Moral: Be a decent person and love sincerely.
It's almost over, I'm a little bit reluctant to let go
