One night, unable to sleep because her days and nights are reversed and she's feeling anxious, she searches for sleep-aid videos, hoping to get to sleep as soon as possible. Instead, she comes across a video tagged #lesbian #sleepaid.

She clicks on it. A woman's fingers are slender and fair, her nails neatly trimmed. She shows the camera a bottle of aloe vera gel, taps it a few times, unscrews the lid, and stirs the gel with her long fingers.

The wet, squelching sounds start to empty Le Pian's mind. Her eyelids grow heavier and heavier.

"I imagined it in the right place and I'm already there."

Le Pian realizes something is off.

Le Pian thinks, How tacky.

She closes the video and looks for a normal sleep video. But no matter what she tries, she can't get back to that drowsy feeling.

At last, she comes across a creator poking an orange with a cotton swab, and finally falls asleep.

A peaceful night's rest.

When she wakes up, Le Pian opens the video that helped her fall asleep the night before.

The familiar #lesbian sleep-aid tag, the familiar creator.

Le Pian thinks, There's no way I'm going to rely on a tacky video like this!

A month later, Le Pian thinks, Her fingers really are long, and her technique really is... damn...

Two months later, Le Pian leaves a comment under the newest video using an alt account: "I've been following along. Can I request makeup brushes for the next video? [drooling]"

With her sleep improving, Le Pian lets go of her obsession and hires an assistant to help reduce her workload.

The assistant is a recent graduate with little work experience. She's quiet and reserved, but knows Le Pian very well, is reliable, and can do makeup.

On her first day, Le Pian asks her to help try out a look.

The assistant agrees, takes out her makeup, and taps it twice with her fingers.

Le Pian's eyelids start to grow heavy.

She looks at the assistant's fair, slender fingers tapping the powder compact. "?"

The assistant finishes her skincare and foundation, then picks up a makeup brush and dips it into the eyeshadow...

Watching her familiar technique, Le Pian feels her body react in a mortifying way.

She grabs the assistant's hand, embarrassed. "Don't..."

"You don't have to do my makeup anymore."

After confirming that her assistant is the sleep-aid creator she'd been following for ages, Le Pian deletes her alt account and decides never to listen to the woman's sleep videos again.

But the insomnia that had disappeared for so long comes back to haunt her.

She breaks her vow and uses guest mode to listen to the woman's voice over and over as she falls asleep, sometimes following along, too.

At last, her assistant catches her.

The assistant, usually so quiet, reserved, and taciturn, lays all the props from her videos out on the table. She wipes each finger with a disinfecting wipe and asks, "Do you want makeup brushes, too?"

Le Pian: "..."
