Zhao Lushen has a dream in which she meets a miserable end. When she wakes the next morning, she takes her servants to a temple to pray to Buddha. A wise master tells her that she should do more good deeds from now on. On the way home, she spots a pitiful little beggar and, thinking it would be a good deed, brings him home. The little beggar stutters a bit, but he is good at fighting, so she keeps him by her side as a bodyguard.
At first, the little stutterer dutifully stays by her side and protects her whenever she is bullied. Later, he starts meddling in more and more of her affairs, and Zhao Lushen says she wants nothing to do with him. Until finally, her own little bodyguard pins her against a wall: "Stop talking to him, okay? So what if he's the top scorer in the imperial exams? I can do that too."
Note: The male lead has a little trouble speaking at first, but he isn't truly a stutterer. He'll get better later!
