Blurb:
Zhang Bai is one of only two scholars in Changxing County. At just fifteen, he is a handsome young man, gentle and courteous to everyone. Anyone who meets him has nothing but praise for him.
His mother, Madam Yang, is determined to find Zhang Bai a well-educated, refined wife. The scholarly families look down on the Zhangs, so Madam Yang finally sets her sights on the daughter of the county's other scholar.
The young lady is called Fu Niang. With her round face, she looks like she's blessed with good fortune. They say she's read many books and is eloquent, too. Madam Yang is delighted.
Her only concern is that Fu Niang is three years older than Zhang Bai and has been jilted once before. She doesn't know whether Zhang Bai will agree to the match.
The usually composed young scholar rarely blushes, but this time his face reddens as he gives a small nod.
Madam Yang has no idea that, beneath the academy's eaves in the endless spring rain that year, the young scholar had already secretly fallen for her.
[Bonus scene]
When Zhang Ke was ten, he found an old umbrella in his father's study. Its ribs were broken, and the canopy was torn in places.
He was about to throw it away when his father stopped him. His usually stern face softened as he said, “You don't need to throw that away. It was given to me by an old friend.”
Zhang Ke thought it must have been a close friend of his father's from long ago. Why else would he treasure it so much?
That night, Zhang Bai came home late for some reason, and his wife locked him out.
His “old friend” called from inside the room, “I've tidied the east wing. Go on, dear. You have to go to court tomorrow.”

Blurb:
Lu Jiayan, the Marquis of Yongning, was brilliantly talented and nobly born. In his previous life, two women had him completely fooled.
His childhood sweetheart, the princess and his first love, kept telling him he was the best brother in the world, then married his sworn enemy.
His gentle, demure wife kept telling him he was the best husband in the world, all the while carrying on with her cousin.
Unable to judge people, he joined his brothers in rebellion and ended up decapitated, his body left in pieces.
Reborn at eighteen, the young marquis declares that in this life, he'll never fall in love, never risk joining a rebellion, and simply enjoy life as a wastrel!
One day at a gathering in a tavern, a songstress with a light veil over her face plays a haunting tune on her pipa and sings in a tender, captivating voice. Lu Jiayan looks closely. Isn't she the woman who saved him once in his previous life?
At first, Lu Jiayan keeps Wanyu around simply to repay her kindness.
Later, Wanyu comes to say goodbye with a small bundle on her back. Lu Jiayan blocks the door and raises an eyebrow. “Yuniang, where did you say you were going?”
Under his dangerous gaze, Wanyu trembles.
[Reading guide]
1. One-on-one romance, both leads are each other's first and only, happy ending, lots of sweetness. The hero starts the story with a wife, but that won't last long.
2. The hero suffered heartbreak in his previous life... but he still can't resist the heroine! The heroine was once a courtesan, and she has a tragic past.
3. Everyday face-slapping marquis X delicate, soft-hearted courtesan's kept woman (pretend)
I changed the title. The old one was too tacky.
Premise: Work hard and build a good life.
Although this arrangement is cruel to Shen Qing, isn't that what a good story is? The fate of the characters is both sad and happy, but it would be far-fetched if they all have a happy ending. If Shen Qing gradually falls in love with that woman because she has similarities with Fu Niang in appearance, the substitute gag will be the downfall of the entire story. That's good. But I still cried for Shen Qing.
Woo hoo hoo, Shen Qing cried, feeling lonely all his life, filled with deep feelings that he could not express. I can't imagine him tremblingly writing the word "" at the end
Alas, it would be nice to slowly let go and watch Taotao grow up. In this world, apart from feelings, you may find a way that you can study for a lifetime.
Wow wow wow wow, this is so well written.
Congratulations on the completion! Spread the flowers, spread the flowers, spread the flowers~
Ahhhhhh this ending is great!
I want to watch Xiaoyu and Taotao's extra story, but Shen Qing wants to watch it but can't bear to watch it.
Ah, my pound. Where is the update?
I think the author wrote this very well. I thought I was really going to fall in love with it. It felt weird. It is true that Shen Qing's character is not very good at it. The ending was so well written.
A simple and heartwarming story, but it's a pity that Zhang Qing didn't have a good ending.
