Zhou Daonian, the son of an official sent down to live in a cowshed, has a hearing impairment and cannot hear out of his right ear. The harsh conditions make his health even more fragile, but he doesn't wallow in self-pity and continues living with optimism.

He likes Bai Nanxing and quietly does things for her, but never speaks of his feelings.

One day, after his treatment, Bai Nanxing corners him by the bed and leans down to speak into his right ear. "Comrade Zhou Daonian, you've liked me for so long. When are you going to marry me?"

The bad news: the plot is absurd.

The novel is mainly about the hero and heroine, childhood friends who are in love and secretly start dating as teenagers.
