To save money, rookie director Zhong Jiudao rented a notorious haunted house for filming.

The house had been empty for years, though quite a few vengeful ghosts who died before the founding of the country had moved in.

They gathered behind Zhong Jiudao, hoping to teach this human who’d trespassed on their territory a lesson.

But Zhong Jiudao calmly took out the script and read it aloud to the house’s residents.

The ghosts: Huh? Acting as the ghosts in the script is... actually pretty fun!

Zhong Jiudao put away the script and asked the group of ghosts, “Would you like to act in a movie? You’ll get paid in burnt spirit money.”

The ghosts: “What kind of movie is it?”

Zhong Jiudao: “A revenge wish-fulfillment story with a ghost as the lead.”

The ghosts all raised their hands. “I want to be in it!”

Zhong Jiudao: “It’s a competitive audition. Try out over here.”

Luo Huai, an obscure actor who had just graduated from film school, landed a supporting role in a horror movie.

The crew was a little short on money, but the director was nice, the staff were friendly, and the experienced actors playing ghosts were talented and helpful, patiently guiding him through filming.

Ghost veteran: “You can’t do it like that. You have to make it believable. If it isn’t believable, how are you supposed to lure those humans into your territory?”

Luo Huai: “Huh?”

Ghost veteran: “I misspoke. If it feels real, the audience will be drawn into your performance.”

Luo Huai: “Thank you, senior! You’re so nice!”
