Lin Zhixia always thought she was in love with her childhood friend, Chen Yuyan.
The one who held her hand and walked her home throughout their senior year of high school.
The one who never missed a birthday present.
The one who took care of her in every possible way.
Later, Lin Zhixia married Chen Yuyan's older brother, Chen Yu'an.
She heard he'd never had a girlfriend in all these years, and that there had always been a white moonlight in his heart.
This marriage was a matter of mutual benefit.
After the wedding, Lin Zhixia expected them to treat each other with respect and keep out of each other's way.
That is, until their contract expired and they divorced as agreed.
Their peaceful life came to an end one night when Chen Yu'an stumbled home drunk, wrapped his arms around her, and took her hand, placing it against his face. His voice was hoarse as he said, "Xiaxia, could you try to fall for me? I promise I won't disappoint you."
At that moment, Lin Zhixia's heart was stirred.
Bonus Scene 1:
When Chen Yu'an was twenty, he tutored Lin Zhixia, who was in her third year of middle school. One time, she fell asleep with her head on the desk. Unable to resist, Chen Yu'an leaned down, closed his eyes, and kissed her. Lin Zhixia smacked her lips. "That marshmallow is so soft..."
Just as Lin Zhixia began to wake, he straightened up and stammered, "You were drooling in your sleep."
Lin Zhixia: "..."
Bonus Scene 2:
Chen Yu'an turned his back to Lin Zhixia and hooked both hands behind her knees. His shoulders were broad enough for her to bury her face in his clothes.
Chen Yu'an sighed and took a tissue from his pocket, offering it to her.
Lin Zhixia bit her lip, tears blurring her vision. After a moment, she sniffled and said through her sobs, "Will you marry me someday?"
She waited a long time, but Chen Yu'an didn't answer. Just as she was growing drowsy, she heard him reply.
"Yes." His voice was barely audible.
