Before entering the palace, Lingyu was the Duke of Dingguo's heir's concubine. A few months later, his principal wife moved into the manor and purged the inner courtyard. With nowhere else to go, Lingyu entered the palace by chance alongside Consort Hui.
She always knew she was a pawn in Consort Hui's hands. Her purpose was to secure the favor of the emperor for the childless consort and bear her an heir.
But she also knew that once she was no longer useful, she would be left to die. So she resorted to every scheme she could think of, placing all her hopes in that man.
The candlelight flickered in the night as Lingyu knelt beside the couch and removed the man's shoes.
Her pale hands were as white as porcelain. Her dark hair fell over her shoulders, concealing her graceful figure.
The young emperor lowered his eyes slightly, then raised a hand to lift her chin. His thumb gently traced her soft lips. “Repeat what you just said to me.”
A blush spread across Lingyu's cheeks. Her long, curled lashes trembled, as if she were shy, or perhaps afraid. “This servant will attend to Your Majesty for the night.”
[Bonus Scene]
At a palace banquet one day, Gao Huan gripped Lingyu's hand, his heart breaking. “Yu'er, believe me. I'll take you out of the palace.”
That night, a jade hairpin clattered against the imperial desk, over and over.
The emperor's eyes turned cold. Sweat dripped from his forehead onto her creamy skin as he rasped, “Lingyu, didn't I tell you that if you saw Gao Huan again, I'd make sure he suffered beyond redemption?”

Coming soon: In the Emperor's Favor
To preserve the Jiang family's prosperity, Noble Consort Jiang, who had been unable to bear a child for years, had no choice but to bring her younger half-sister into the palace.
But unable to accept it, she only arranged for the girl to serve her as a maid, sending her to tend the plants in the garden whenever the emperor came by.
Unexpectedly, less than two months later, Noble Consort Jiang discovered she was pregnant.
Wanfu, now a discarded pawn with no further use, was to be sent by her family to the Secretariat Chancellor's manor as a concubine after they weighed their interests.
That day, a small sedan chair from Zhaoyang Palace made its way to a side gate of the imperial palace. No one knew that its passenger had already stepped out of the sedan chair.
The emperor reclined on a couch, reading a book. A girl who had just bathed slowly emerged from the washroom, eyes lowered as she knelt beside him.
“This servant thanks Your Majesty for saving her.”
The emperor glanced at her without making it obvious. His gaze paused at the glimpse of skin, and the corner of his mouth lifted slightly. “You were afraid of being sent to the young master of the Secretariat Chancellor's household, but you're not afraid of being sent to me?”
Before the girl could answer, his long, strong fingers swept aside her dark hair, which had been covering her body. The springtime beauty beneath her thin robe could no longer be concealed, and slowly came into view before the emperor.
