A father is a daughter's role model, and this was no exception for Midori Megure. She, too, once hoped to become an outstanding police inspector like her dad.
However, ever since high school student Shinichi Kudo became the savior of the Japanese police, their reliance on detectives had skyrocketed. The police had been reduced to a bunch of lackeys who "can't solve cases on their own" and "wait for detectives to solve them before swooping in to make an easy arrest."
Midori Megure's admiration for her father shattered. She buried herself in Sherlock Holmes stories, hoping to become a detective who did real work instead of running errands.
But she discovered that her dream was doomed after all.
For some inexplicable reason, a family heirloom statue summoned her to the Warring States period. The villagers forced the identity of "the reincarnation of Priestess Midoriko" on her and begged her for protection. Midori Megure was completely panicked.
Demonic power could do anything, ghosts and monsters existed in the world, and people could even come back from the dead... This wasn't Conan-style science! How was she supposed to solve cases now?
The novice village's (??) demon slayer explained: Lady Midoriko's soul had turned into the Shikon Jewel along with the demons. Only a small part of her residual soul entered the cycle of reincarnation and was reborn as Miss Midori. Miss Midori's soul was incomplete, and she would have trouble living past thirty. Only by merging with Lady Midoriko's soul fragments inside the Shikon Jewel could she become whole and live a complete life.
Midori Megure: ...Why does this feel like I've completed a quest in the novice village and unlocked the world map?
After experiencing the contrast between fighting demons solo and being carried by the heavy hitters, Midori Megure suddenly understood her father. So this was how wonderful it felt to coast to victory!
When a horde of demons arrived, the big shot Sesshomaru was clearing out the minions, Jaken was delivering the finishing blows, and Rin was cheering them on. Midori Megure...
After yelling, "You're all murderers!" at the weakling demons, she declared her mission complete, climbed onto Ah-Un, and settled in to watch the show and enjoy the spectacle.
In the 21st century, Midori Megure chose to become a detective because detectives could carry other people to victory.
In the Warring States period, Midori Megure chose to become a detective because detectives could be carried to victory.
Also known as: This Priestess Is Clearly Overpowered, Yet She's Far Too Laid-Back
This story's settings include: (primarily) Inuyasha and Detective Conan
* Skit
Conan Edogawa: What method did the culprit use to create an alibi? Which of those three people was it?
Heiji Hattori: Damn it, there isn't a single piece of decisive evidence left at the scene!
Midori Megure (raising the borrowed Tenseiga): Why don't we just ask the victim?
Heiji Hattori: ???
Conan Edogawa: ???
Premise: Midori, who has the destiny of a priestess, is reborn with Midoriko's residual soul but switches careers to become a detective.
