The Feasibility of Abandoning a Merfolk Hatchling

1. By a twist of fate, Mu Mu joins a friend's research team on a trip to the East Sea. The others go for research; he goes for a swim.

2. The trip to the East Sea is wonderful on the way there, but the return journey is miserable. Mu Mu has never gotten motion sickness before, but he spends more than ten days in a daze. He only gets his energy back after finally setting foot on solid ground at home and soaking in the bathtub for half the night.

3. But when he wakes up, he finds a mermaid baby in his bathtub.

4. Mu Mu is a materialist, so he flushes it down the drain. Less than half an hour later, he develops a mild fever and collapses into bed, groggy. The next day, he discovers that the mermaid baby has appeared again.

5. Once he's sure he's not hallucinating and that his home really does contain a legendary creature, Mu Mu gives in to his curiosity and reaches out to grab the mermaid baby. It bites him with its mouthful of sharp teeth, leaving him covered in blood...

6. Mermaids are vicious, even as babies. Especially vicious.

7. Mu Mu considers every possible way to abandon the mermaid baby, but in the end, he can only raise it with tears in his eyes, his feelings a complicated mix of joy and sorrow.
