The day Ye Huating jumped from the city wall, she discovered that she'd transmigrated into an old-fashioned melodramatic novel, becoming a cannon-fodder female character with the same name and a tragic ending. The original Ye Huating was the beloved little princess of the Ye Kingdom. She rescued the neighboring kingdom's handsome, badly wounded crown prince from a cliff and fell in love with him, vowing never to marry anyone else. She even threatened her father with suicide to force him to arrange a marriage alliance.
On the day of her grand wedding, she and the Crown Prince's beloved both wore phoenix crowns and wedding robes. But that woman went to the Eastern Palace, while Ye Huating's carriage headed for a bandit hideout, where she was abused by several men. The Great Ye Kingdom also suffered a palace coup and was attacked by the neighboring kingdom, leaving her branded a traitor.
On the day she escaped the bandits and returned to the palace, the Crown Prince, who had always obeyed her and promised to repay her life-saving kindness with his own, stood on a high platform with the beautiful woman in his arms. He watched coldly as countless arrows pierced Ye Huating's broken body and she leapt from the city wall in despair.
Back on her wedding day, Ye Huating ignores the guards and maids trying to stop her and forcibly jumps from the carriage, plunging into a thicket where someone could hide. By chance, she comes across a man who has been bitten by a wild beast and is burning with fever.
The man's features are sharply defined, his lines strong, and his whole being radiates a cold, aloof presence. Even with blood smeared all over his face, he still carries himself with the haughty air of a crane looking down on all things.
She knows him. He's the deeply concealed strategist at the Crown Prince's side, the man who planned and engineered the destruction of the Great Ye Kingdom.
She won't fall into the same trap twice. Ye Huating grabs a gold hairpin and prepares to finish him off.
Unexpectedly, a flash of silver light appears, and the man who was just over six feet tall instantly turns into a four-year-old boy, tears hanging from the corners of his eyes as he hiccups through his sobs.
He throws himself into Ye Huating's arms, looking as fragile as a little wild dog that's been bullied to the breaking point. "Sis... Sister, there's a monster, sob."
Ye Huating: ??
Ning He has a dream. In it, a woman in bridal robes falls from a city he'd just recaptured. Her once beautiful, lively face is filled with grief, and her bright, lighthearted eyes are full of despair.
Night after night, she keeps begging him to save her.
He thinks the dream is utterly absurd and feels no pity for her.
Later, Ning He discovers that this world is actually a novel. He's the male lead, but he's been framed by treacherous villains, his fate altered, and countless people wrongly plunged into disaster by him. He ends up buried in the earth. After unilaterally changing the plot, he gets trapped in a cycle: he becomes a child during the day and returns to his true form at night.
The System tells him he'll automatically be bound in a "live and die together" pact with the first person he meets after shrinking, and he can't be more than fifteen minutes away from that person. Otherwise, he'll bleed from all seven orifices.
At first, Ning He would rather die than give in. "I can save her. Let me bleed if I must, but she isn't coming anywhere near me."
Later, Ning He shamelessly clings to her. "My lady, the bed is too cold. Come cuddle me."
