Chasing the Moon

[I wish I could sleep forever.]

On the first day of school, a friend received a text and got so scared he rushed straight to a neighboring city without even finishing half his meal, afraid his chronically unreachable childhood friend had relapsed again.

Gu Xi would periodically fall into despair. He was too lazy to deal with people, yet he liked being around crowds.

His friend was on the verge of panic when he found him at an internet cafe. The little prince had brought his own earplugs, covered most of his face with a mask, and was sleeping soundly amid all the noise.

He was even lying on top of two brand-new school uniforms.

...He couldn't take it anymore. Someone, please come take this kid off his hands.

Su Xun had spent her childhood moving from place to place with her father, wandering the world. It had been a colorful childhood, to say the least.

She carefully kept her secret identity hidden, acting like a model student at school, then letting loose as soon as she left. She climbed over walls and up trees, and got into all kinds of trouble... until one bright moonlit night, when she committed a huge blunder.

She witnessed a kidnapping. A child was trapped in a sealed warehouse in the back hills. And she happened to be lying on the roof, basking in the moonlight...

There was a window in the high wall. Moonlight shone through that one small square opening, illuminating a corner of the room.

He was curled up there, looking up at her.

He was so beautiful. Bewitched, she agreed to help him escape.

But the next day, then the day after... she never came back.

After learning that Su Xun was the little con artist from back then, Gu Xiu started picking fights with himself every day.

He had tried to subtly fish for answers, but her responses became more ridiculous each time.

"First grade? Fourth grade? I can't remember."

Great, she couldn't even remember what year it was. He swore that if he ever went on another adventure with Su Xun, he'd be a dog.

The next day.

Su Xun: "Gu Xiu, let's go watch the moon from the roof tonight!"

Gu Xiu: "Okay."

She had only one New Year's wish this year:

"Gu Xiu, I want you to be a little happier."
