The "cat" was picked up by a boy named Dazai Osamu.
The boy said, "You are human."
So he began to be human.
The boy said, "All humans have names."
So he was given a name.
The boy said, "Humans walk on two legs, speak, and their expressions change with their moods."
So he was forced into chains, his body wrenched straight. He made strange, hoarse sounds and struggled to move his muscles into a smile.
He was so tired, and it hurt so much. Still, he did everything he could to carry out the boy's orders.
But the boy said:
"You're filthy. Stay away from me."
"Shut up. Hearing you call my name in that voice makes me want to die."
"You look hideous. Are you trying to make me laugh? I can't laugh at all."
"You're so boring. You're nothing like the fun I imagined. If this is all you can do, there's no point in teaching you anymore."
He curled up in the darkness, abandoned, as the boy's clothes disappeared into the distance.
He became a "cat" again.
