Synopsis:
An ancient god with a strong protective streak × a human artist in a precarious state of mind
(In the past: a god × her devoted priestess)
*
The god's return to the human world could not have come at a worse time.
The world's barrier, meant to keep out external contamination, is in tatters. Pollution created by humans has given the outsiders a place to revive.
The god is diligent and conscientious. She intends to patch things up and give the world another few tens of thousands of years.
But what if saving the world means sacrificing once more the beautiful priestess who gave her life for the god tens of thousands of years ago?
The god strokes the broken fragments of the human's soul, then runs a hand over the human's soft hair.
It feels no different from tens of thousands of years ago.
The god thinks that tens of thousands of years ago, she learned knowledge and reason from a human. Could she learn a little selfishness from one this time?
For a god, choosing between saving herself and saving humanity should be an either-or question.
But she insists on making it a multiple-choice question.
*
Shu Liang has suffered from a strange illness since childhood: he can see hallucinations. He thought he would live out his days in a dazed, delusional state, until a mysterious woman stepped out of his hallucinations and took both his hands.
For the first time, his hallucinations contained something logical and rational. Like a drowning man, he instinctively moved toward her.
Tsunamis in the mouths of fish, insect plagues on the edge of the city, sandstorms in the streets, and thick fog that never lifts: Shu Liang obediently offers his body and hands as tools for the god, helping her fix the world's contaminated breaches one by one.
Until his memories gradually return and he understands one thing:
What if getting closer to her means dying again?
It's all right. It would only be one more death. He believes his god will find him again.
So Shu Liang places his throat in the god's hands.
Notes:
1. This is a GB romance, but neither lead has any extra organs. The heroine is a god, and she has ways of handling this minor issue.
2. This is not a typical past-life-and-present-life story. The present is set in an imagined near-future society, and the past in a fictional pre-civilization era.
3. One-to-one romance. The male lead is sexually inexperienced and belongs only to the heroine in both lives. There may be a few other male characters with one-sided feelings for her.
4. Some scenes are mildly frightening, with many nontraditional Lovecraftian elements and a small amount of Northeast Asian mythology.
5. The heroine is a benevolent god, full of humanity and a strong sense of responsibility, but at her core she is still something other than human.
