Getting the Scoop by Decoding the Censored Bits in a 1960s Story

[April 4, 2023: Synopsis screenshot saved]

You Muyु was the prettiest girl in the whole commune. Sadly, she had been frail since childhood, and the doctor declared she wouldn't live past twenty-one.

On the day of You Muyu's twentieth birthday, her illness grew serious and she was admitted to the hospital. As she drifted in and out of consciousness, several messages suddenly appeared before her eyes:

[So-and-so's man was caught fooling around with so-and-so outside, but so-and-so bided her time and turned so-and-so gay. The two of them sent the man off to a farm for reeducation through labor!]

[The walls of the Revolutionary Committee weren't damaged by thieves. So-and-so gnawed them all away!]

[So-and-so's current son isn't her biological child. He was actually born to her mother-in-law, so-and-so, who deliberately switched the babies and made her raise her brother-in-law!]

[So-and-so's fiance is actually gay!]

Then the doctor watched the frail You Muyu's eyes light up, like a melon-loving badger in a melon patch...

You Muyu: Doctor, help me sit up. I can eat one more bit of gossip!

You Muyu kept decoding the names hidden behind the “so-and-so”s, until at last she solved her own gossip mystery:

[You Muyu's fiance is actually gay!]

You Muyu turned stiffly to look at her handsome, refined fiance beside her. You look so upright and respectable, and you're gay!
