Ever since the monkey came to ask for a master, Fei Qing, who lived at the Cave of the Slanting Moon and Three Stars, hadn’t had a good night’s sleep.
He opened Journey to the West and discovered that this version of the story was a complete disaster. Every crooked line on every page seemed to spell out “eat demons.”
Unable to sleep, he read on carefully until the middle of the night. Only then did he make out the words hidden between the lines: “The demons are doomed.”
The demon race is doomed!!!!!
When the nest is overturned, no egg remains intact. Having spent sixteen years as a human, Fei Qing packed his things overnight and decided to flee.
Master, I’m done being a demon!
In the blink of an eye, Patriarch Bodhi stopped him.
The Patriarch kindly asked him about his ambitions, and whether he had any thoughts about the karma binding him to the monkey.
Fei Qing: .
With his eyes shut, Fei Qing recited a stock answer: The demon race has never needed a savior. No matter how powerful or gifted the monkey is, he’s still just one monkey. As the saying goes, a single tree can’t hold up a forest. Only when the demons of all four continents unite will the demon race grow strong. And only when the demon race is strong can every demon live with dignity…
In short, restoring the demon race to glory is our generation’s duty!
The Patriarch was satisfied. “All right, then. You’re up.”
Fei Qing: O.o?
What, just because he’s a bird?

On the day he was forced to restore the demon race to glory, Fei Qing decided to latch onto someone powerful and find himself a good dad.
The Patriarch: …?
Kong Xuan: ? At least change your surname first.
Lu Ya: ? You’re a crow trying to claim kinship with a peacock.
The monkey destined to be trapped beneath Five Finger Mountain: ? Shouldn’t the first step be saving me?

1. I couldn’t find anything to eat, so I cooked up something myself. It’s lighthearted. Though it’s based on Journey to the West, it borrows some web-novel-style prehistoric mythology settings. Patriarch Bodhi is Tongtian; Tongtian is the father figure; Kong Xuan and Crown Prince Lu Ya, who absolutely refuses to reveal his name.
2. A bird who bullies the weak but bows to the strong, knows when to yield, is spoiled, nasty, and great at playing dumb x a monkey who may not be all that nice, but seems especially kind compared with the bird.
3. The protagonist is a crow, crazier than one certain lunatic and smarter than another. Don’t expect him to have any conscience or morals (.
P.S. No conspiracy theories. The protagonist and the immortals simply have some differences in their respective positions.
Theme: Learning is important.
