Mo Li is an ancient ferocious beast who was sealed away for ten thousand years. After a cataclysmic change in the world, he awakens to find himself transformed into a frail human. He slings a little backpack over his shoulders and heads down the mountain to seek revenge, only to get dragged into a blind date as soon as he steps outside.
Taotie plunks his little backpack on the table. “I eat a lot. My parents set me up on this date because they can't afford to feed me.”
The demon-hunting bureau's star agent plunks down his salary card. “The bureau pays next to nothing. There's never more than two thousand in my account. I can't afford a wife.”
The two part ways, deciding never to see each other again.
The next day, Taotie climbs through the agent's window. “I hear you're a good cook. How about you cook, and I'll earn the money?”
And so Qin Chu, the only son of the richest family in the universe, who'd joined the demon-hunting bureau out of boredom, starts making a serious effort to look poor, hiding his limited-edition watches and cuff links at the bureau.
As a key member of the demon-hunting bureau, Qin Chu's lifelong ambition is to rid the world of demons. When demons run amok, he grabs his gun and rushes to the rescue.
Taotie, who's earning money for food, hears that the archenemy who sealed him away has finally appeared. He ends his livestream, picks up his little backpack, and turns to leave.
They run into each other. Qin Chu hastily covers his watch. “A coworker gave it to me.”
Mo Li transforms in an instant. “Don't think I won't recognize you just because you've changed your face!”
They both realize what's going on at the same time.
“You're a demon?”
“You've been pretending to be poor this whole time?”
Much later, the demon-hunting bureau is bought by the richest man in the universe and renamed the Demon Management Bureau. In reality, it is run by demons. Qin Chu treats Mo Li to the most luxurious feast in the universe, then kneels by the bed. “I'll cook, I'll earn the money, I'll take care of you. Eat whatever you want. I'll make sure there's always plenty.”
As long as you let me sleep in the bed.
