Blood-red eyes, blue phoenix wings spread three thousand yards wide. How can the knot in my heart from this lifetime be undone? Wind rises beneath my arms. Lives gather and part, all mortal destinies set; spirits come and go, faint as clouds. What is one to do when a west wind blows fierce through the night, trees wither, and the snow left over from winter has yet to melt? Who will awaken first from this great dream?
The mountain passes are hard to cross. Though my robes are ragged, the three rivers still flow. A heartbreak drifts away with the waves; clouds rise and the waters subside. I wonder if the flowers in the woods are still as they were, with storm-dark skies overhead. Let’s not speak of the past. How pitiful the southern trees, and how can I stop thinking of them? When can we join hands again as we did before, with moonlight filling our hearts and wine filling our cups?
