Yu Qiuchi, a college student who accidentally became a local earth god, is overwhelmed by a mountain of messes. If he fails to meet his quota, he'll be struck by lightning.
He decides to start by making a wish of his own: "I want a promotion, a raise, and a few underlings!"
The next day, with a sudden poof, he finds a husky.
The husky eats a lot and runs fast, but gets terribly scared whenever it sees ghosts or monsters.
Yu Qiuchi scolds it, disappointed: "What's the point of keeping you? Even the parrot next door is better than you!"
The husky isn't moved. It hides behind him and watches him frantically throw talismans around. Ancestor, back when I ruled the underworld, that parrot's grandfather hadn't even been born yet.
One day, a great demon attacks the local earth god's shrine. The husky transforms, frightening the demon into wetting itself and fleeing.
The husky, or rather Sang Zhuzhu, takes a graceful step forward and says with deep feeling, "Allow me to introduce myself properly. I am Sang Zhuzhu, ruler of all demons. After careful consideration, I find you both talented and handsome, so I shall consider becoming your guardian deity. Now hurry up and thank me."
The more Yu Qiuchi looks at Sang Zhuzhu, the more he resembles the school bully who used to provoke him every day in high school. He gives him a flick on the forehead. "You're so powerful, yet you watched me embarrass myself every day. As punishment, you can't eat for five days, and you can't come into my room!"
In a corner where no one can see, Yu Qiuchi's earlobes turn red. He really is quite handsome.
To earn money to feed his guardian deity, Yu Qiuchi makes another wish: "I want a promotion, a raise, and even more underlings!"
Sang Zhuzhu looks aggrieved. "Am I not enough for you?"
Yu Qiuchi is horrified. "Stop taking your clothes off! I have class tomorrow!"
"I've already called in sick for you."
