The Beauty and the Killer

An imperial decree ordered Princess Changyuan to become the fifty-year-old emperor’s new empress. For the sake of her family, Changle could only set off for Ningyang in tears. But by an unexpected turn of events, she and a cold-blooded assassin fell off a cliff and were swept by the river into a sinkhole. The princess was afraid that the dark-faced assassin would leave her alone at the bottom of the cliff and go off on his own, so she bravely clung to the tall, strong assassin. In the end, she even lied and told him she loved him and wanted to be his wife. The assassin was taciturn, but he wasn’t a fool. He knew what she was after, so at first he paid her little attention. But every time, she would look at him with red, tearful eyes, as if he had done something terrible to her. He thought it was boring down there anyway, so he might as well play along. He gave her food so she wouldn’t starve to death. He let her follow him so wild beasts wouldn’t carry her off. He gave her animal skins to keep warm so she wouldn’t freeze to death. But after she wore him down for so long, he finally gave her what she wanted. The assassin, free of any moral restraints, became her lover in the wild. He thought that once they got out of the valley, she would keep far away from him. He would go back to living by the blade, while she returned to her life of luxury. Their paths would never cross again. Theme: A tough man and a pampered young lady
