After the Mad Regent Is Reborn

The day the old emperor passed away, the crown prince also died unexpectedly. Jiang Heng was the sole surviving member of the Jiang imperial bloodline, a delicate princess.

The court fell into chaos!

To prevent the Regent, Xie Zheng, who was away at war and notorious for his brutality, from seizing the throne and declaring himself emperor, everyone treated the seemingly frail, innocent, and beautiful princess Jiang Heng as a puppet and personally placed her on the highest throne.

As long as the imperial bloodline survived, Xie Zheng could never claim the throne legitimately!

Jiang Heng thought so too.

So when Xie Zheng returned victorious, dressed in black court robes and standing below the steps, his inscrutable eyes fixed on her, she assumed he wanted nothing more than to get rid of her.

It was not until a winter banquet, when Empress Jiang Heng went boating to admire the moon with the newly appointed top scholar and accidentally fell into the lake, that things changed.

The Regent, known for his iron-fisted rule, finally revealed his true colors.

Not only was he the first to jump in and save her, he flew into a rage and kicked the top scholar, who had just climbed ashore, right back into the water.

In her bedchamber, where no one dared follow, the Regent held the shivering Empress tight in his arms and spoke in a voice cold with menace:

"Jiang Heng, I didn't help you ascend the throne so I could watch you cuddle up to other men."

Jiang Heng: "...?"

After exacting his revenge, Xie Zheng held the position of Regent and command of the military. The empire was his for the taking.

But the Regent, who saw through the treacherous court, chose not to seize it.

Rather than overthrowing a corrupt dynasty and taking the throne for himself, in this life he would rather be the man standing behind Empress Jiang Heng.
