[Written when I was obsessed with My Roommate Is a Detective last year. Saving this for now. Once I finish Joy of Life, I'll come back and write it.]
Qiao Chusheng still remembered the day he first met Tang Yuan.
April 3, 1915. The sun was shining, and after a long stretch of bad weather, Shanghai had finally cleared up. Thirteen-year-old Qiao Chusheng was still hauling sacks at the Shiliupu Wharf when, by pure chance, he ran into Tang Yuan, a young master dressed to the nines who had run away from home.
They raced through Shanghai's long, cramped alleyways, splashed through puddles, and startled a flock of birds perched along the walls. At last, they stopped at the end of the lane.
Qiao Chusheng looked curiously at the bedraggled young master in front of him. "What's your name?"
"Tang Yuan."
"Tang...yuan?"
"What do you mean, sweet dumplings? It's Yuan, like the kite!" Tang Yuan panted, shooting Qiao Chusheng an exasperated look.
"What's a yuan?"
"A yuan is a kind of bird. My mother said she hopes I can be like one, flying away and living freely."
Premise: Detective Qiao is so handsome.
