That was how they first met.
"Little Mel, don't be shy."
Melicia hid behind her father, peeking at the two people in front of them. A boy about her height stood beside the man, looking at her curiously.
She quickly ducked back behind her father. Only after he patted her back to signal that she should come forward did she manage to take a few steps, peeking out halfway.
It wasn't hard to imagine that the boy would grow up to be handsome. Sunlight fell gently across his chestnut hair, making it look like half a sunflower, Melicia thought. She couldn't help giggling.
Her laughter caught the boy's attention, and Melicia met his gaze. She had never seen light gray eyes before. They were just like the feathers of Bally, the old owl at home.
The boy held out his hand to her, but soon noticed the specks of mud on his fingers. Looking a little embarrassed, he wiped them on his overalls, then quickly held his hand out again.
"Hello, Little Mel. My name is Cedric Diggory."
