After Chi Yan played basketball for a while with Ying Qiu, another Alpha in their class, a little of Ying Qiu's pheromones accidentally leaked out after the intense exercise. It made Chi Yan's breathing grow rapid. Since he hadn't gotten a good whiff of Ying Qiu's pheromones, he assumed Ying Qiu was an Omega posing as an Alpha, and watched him for a week or two without finding anything.
When he caught Ying Qiu's scent again, he finally realized the problem was with himself. After getting examined at the hospital, the doctor told him he wasn't an Alpha.
Chi Yan looked at the doctor. "A second differentiation?"
The doctor pushed up his glasses. "No. You've always been an Enigma. There are so few Enigmas that they didn't detect it. You have your classmate to thank for that."
His parents and older brother told him to properly thank Ying Qiu when they found out, never realizing that this would tie Chi Yan and Ying Qiu together for the rest of their lives.
