Su Qingran was born with a pair of beautiful eyes, like clear, tranquil lakes, yet shimmering with a light that could captivate the soul.
No matter what rumors circulated, no one could deny that she was a fine actress.
She had no formal training. Her debut film, Rose, swept nearly every major international award of its year.
Her second, third, fourth films... In just three years, no Chinese star could rival her.
People praised her beauty, acting, and luck, and she accepted it all graciously.
Because it was all too easy for her.
She could play an innocent girl, a resilient warrior, a passionate pianist, or a rigid, old-fashioned woman to perfection.
She could also play Su, the dazzling award-winning actress; a shrewd investor; a power broker in the business world...
And the ruthless head of the Su family.
The illustrious Su family of Hong Kong was tangled in a web of internal rivalries and hidden currents. After the old patriarch died, long-standing grudges could no longer be contained, and the family was plunged into unprecedented turmoil.
Some speculated that Su Qingran would be caught up in the battle between the wealthy families and doomed to disaster.
Others thought that was an exaggeration. Who would bother targeting her? Even if the Su family fell apart, she could still happily take acting jobs and make money.
But what happened next left everyone dumbfounded.
The internet erupted with claims that Su Qingran had ruthlessly fought over the inheritance. Her private life was exposed, and rumors ran rampant.
Her younger brother, speaking for the Su family's eldest branch, publicly disowned his sister, apparently sacrificing her to save himself. Su Qingran was plunged into a bitter struggle.
Scandals from the eldest branch came to light, the stock price plummeted, and the attempt to distance themselves from her failed. The people involved were fired one after another, and the whole operation collapsed.
Su Qingran announced her retirement from acting, with no set date for her return. She vanished without a trace, and nothing could turn things around.
A month later, senior executives across the Su family were suddenly investigated, and the entire situation was turned on its head.
A year later, Su Qingran's new film premiered, sweeping the major awards and earning record-breaking acclaim.
A year and a half later, Su Qingran received a lifetime achievement award, becoming the youngest actor ever to win it. She was unstoppable.
