At Hogwarts in 1991, aside from The Chosen One, another new student soon caught everyone's attention. Despite his wishes, it was hard not to notice someone who was always carrying around something three feet long...
"That's so weird. Is that really a wand?" Ron reached out to touch the crude-looking wooden stick.
"Of course, Ron. It fits my hand pretty well." The person he'd questioned smiled shyly, then noticed the boy behind Ron staring at him. "Is something the matter, Potter?"
"Uh, no. It's just, you remind me of someone. Sorry." The young Chosen One touched the tip of his nose and mumbled.
The person holding the wand froze for a moment, then smiled with distant fondness. "It's all right. That's normal. Sometimes, when I look at you all, I think of..." Before he could finish, a group of passing Hufflepuffs waved enthusiastically at them.
"Frodo, come on! I smelled something delicious when I passed the kitchens. We're having fish and chips today!"
Ron stared in amazement as the gentle person who had seemed as timid as a fawn suddenly turned into a hopping rabbit.
"Merlin, why does he turn into a different person whenever food comes up? Those Hufflepuffs sure aren't shy."
"Uh, he is a Hufflepuff, Ron."
"But he's also a Gryffindor, isn't he?"
A loud smack came from behind the two boys. Hermione, carrying a book, squeezed past them. "Excuse me. By the way, Baggins is a cross-house student. I think you two may have forgotten."
After getting a little obsessed following the re-release of The Lord of the Rings, I decided to write an outline. I'm only borrowing a few details and traits from the film version.
