The Noble Consort Only Wants to Die (Transmigrate into a Book)

Reborn as a doomed substitute consort, Gu Niannian appears to be showered with the emperor's favor, but in reality, she's a grasshopper in autumn, with no time left to live. Rather than die such an unjust death, she decides to make the most of her final days.

She talks back to the Empress Dowager and the emperor, and tears into consorts from every corner of the palace, acting so outrageously that she seems untouchable.

She manages to offend everyone, yet somehow her time to die still hasn't come.

What can she do? Keep acting high and mighty, of course. Surely the day she is sentenced to death will come eventually.

The timid consort suddenly turns domineering, stunning everyone in the harem. Her rank keeps them in check, so they can only swallow their anger and wait for the day she loses favor, when they'll finally get to kick her while she's down.

But as they wait, no decree deposing her ever arrives. Instead, she is promoted to Imperial Noble Consort.

Everyone: Playing hard to get!

Gu Niannian: It has to be!

Later, the chief eunuch strides in with a formidable air. The harem is overjoyed, and Gu Niannian assumes he has a white silk cord in one hand and poisoned wine in the other.

But to her disappointment, he is holding an imperial decree appointing her Empress in both hands!

Gu Niannian: ...

Theme: Life is precious, but love is even more so.
