The Forest of Memory, a Lost Landscape

Beyond the bridge, where the water runs deep, a peach grove lies outside the house.

My tears have long since become a sea.

The autumn wind sweeps by, and we part ways.

As blood slowly soaks through my hopes,

a sharp blade pierces my chest, and my vision begins to blur.

Why can I still see your face?

I still wait beneath the tree, holding on to our love.

Fly across a thousand rivers and mountains, and you can return to my side.

Even if all I can do is say goodbye one more time.

As I close my eyes, my tears congeal with the blood spilling from me.

I'm afraid. I run. It's no use.

Five years, ten years, fifteen years...

I can't wait any longer, I can't forget, and you're not here.

The future, foreseen. The past, abandoned. I don't know what to do.

I only wish

that in my imagination, you were safe and sound... completely unharmed.

But this is a dream, and now it's shattered. All my self-deception and pretense are useless.

You're gone.

All that's left is me, alone... in this world:

Alone, so utterly alone in summer.

Lost, at the end of the road...

The opening blurb was adapted from "Yellow Maple Leaf."

This story came from one of my sudden flights of fancy, and is dedicated to my little friend Mantou.
