Ning Qingwu likes to gamble. He wants to bet on everything, yet no matter when, he always wins. Eventually, he grows tired of gambling and becomes the one who shakes the dice.
Shaking dice is much easier than running around placing bets, so easy it's boring. That leaves him free to raise some little animals.
Once he starts raising them, he wants to gamble again. So while others raise cats, dogs, cattle, horses, chickens, and sheep, he raises tigers.
Xiao Ao once asked him, "Have you ever lost a bet?"
He thought about it, his brow furrowed more seriously than when he was placing a bet. After pondering for who knows how long, he finally came up with an answer.
"I once raised a cat, thinking it would turn into a tiger, but it didn't. Then I raised a tiger, thinking it would always be a tiger, but when it came back, it was a clingy big cat."
