The Period Novel's Foil Gives Up

Shi Lan transmigrated into a book, becoming the villainess in an 1980s-era sweet romance novel. She was a foil whose job was to make things difficult for the heroine and get face-slapped by her. The heroine was beautiful and kind, loved by everyone. The villainess was sharp-tongued and mean, hated by everyone. The villainess opposed the heroine at every turn. Finally, when the heroine was at the height of her success, the villainess, having abandoned her husband and child, died a miserable and lonely death in some forgotten corner. Shi Lan: ...? Whoever wants to be the villainess can have the job. She certainly wasn’t going to do it. In the tumultuous 1980s, an era of great change, wasn’t building a career much better? Why be a villainess? Get agriculture going! Build factories! Build roads! She’d throw herself into the work and build a bright future! When I bloom, the gentle breeze will come. “When I bloom, the gentle breeze will come” is a quote from San Mao’s The Rain Season Will Never Come Again. Theme: Live a positive and beautiful life.
