When Zhuo Kai'an realized that the world he lived in was one giant story about a protagonist being tortured, he scoffed. Either he was crazy, or this damn world was.
Then, in the dead of night, someone knocked on his shabby security door. Knocked wasn't the right word: they were pounding on it.
He opened the inner door, and a bloodied boy rushed into view. He was in a wretched state, but his eyes were full of hope and pleading as he looked at Zhuo Kai'an. "Please, save me..."
The scene reminded Zhuo Kai'an of a dream. What had he done then?
Oh, right. He hadn't even opened the inner door, and the next day disaster struck and he died.
The novel had spelled out the reason for his death: punishment for ignoring the protagonist's tragic plight.
It was as if the gears of fate had begun turning again.
Zhuo Kai'an let out a cold laugh. Did that idiot author not know the saying, "Stop trying to save people and respect their fate"?
He saved the protagonist, but who would save him?
He deserved to die just because he hadn't helped the protagonist?
Then the idiot author, the source of every tragedy in the protagonist's life, deserved to die too, didn't they?
At the thought, Zhuo Kai'an's gaze toward the boy changed.
Fine. He'd save him this time. Whatever happened after that had nothing to do with him~
Knowing the general plot, Zhuo Kai'an "bided his time" and held his nose as he helped the protagonist, Su Jia, through the darkest three years of his life.
He hadn't really done much: he taught Su Jia's scumbag father a lesson and gave him a small room.
Then he put him to work and squeezed him dry. There was no way he was letting him live and eat for free!
The protagonist would have plenty of money in the future, anyway. Zhuo Kai'an would use his kindness to claim a favor, and make sure he got back twice whatever he'd given.
He could survive and make a fortune at the same time! Zhuo Kai'an had already become a thoroughly rotten person, so he felt no guilt whatsoever.
What he didn't know was that the little lamb he'd imagined was actually a vicious dog in sheep's clothing.
Eyes that could never see the light had already licked Zhuo Kai'an all over, again and again, just waiting for the right moment to drag him back to its den and cover him in its scent.

Su Jia had lived through hell since childhood and was no longer normal.
That night, he had deliberately knocked on the door of the man in the building who looked like the sort of person best avoided.
He had prepared himself for rejection, but the man not only saved him, he even went out of his way to deal with his scumbag father.
On the surface, Su Jia was timid and shrinking, playing the role of a weak victim who had endured years of bullying and oppression. He was very good at making people want to protect and pity him.
In reality, he thought little of the man's help.
That flirty bastard wore that vest of his every day, showing off a huge expanse of sharply defined muscles. Who was he trying to seduce?
Su Jia had always been inclined to view human nature in the worst possible light.
A lecherous, stupid thing, so hypocritical he reeked of it. He deserved to be deceived.
Once he grew up, these disgusting, rotten memories would disappear.
Until one day, Zhuo Kai'an suddenly left without a word, as if he had never been part of Su Jia's world.
At that moment, Su Jia went completely mad.
