Just after graduating from film school, Gu Sheng was hit head-on by a car and sent to another world, a continent of immortal cultivators. He joined a sect there and diligently practiced cultivation. Just as he had finally mastered his skills, a twist of fate sent him back to the modern world.
Three years had passed in the modern world. The agency he'd signed with had gone back on its word, and the movie he'd been slated to star in had already finished filming. Gu Sheng was left with nothing but an empty house, his cultivation, and... his entire sect, who kept getting transported over every few days.
His senior brother was a habitual nitpicker.
His senior sister and junior brother screamed and clung to each other whenever a cockroach appeared.
His junior sister was a pro at demolishing houses.
His master said gently, "Sheng'er, pawn my jade belt. At least it'll help cover some expenses."
Gu Sheng: "..."
What else could he do? He'd just have to work hard and support the family.
So, in between trips to film sets, Gu Sheng had no choice but to lead his sect into exorcising demons and evil spirits, and swindling people (crossed out).
Then one day, a long-haired, handsome young man fell from the sky and landed with a splash in Gu Sheng's bathtub. He and Gu Sheng stared at each other, eyes wide.
Wait, I can understand the whole sect, even the pageboy, making it through, but where did this little phoenix come from?
The little phoenix cried angrily, "Chirp!"
Gu Sheng expertly smoothed its feathers. "There, there. I can raise a phoenix too."
Years later, the phoenix, corrupted by demonic energy in a blood formation and dressed in black robes, leaned over Gu Sheng, a vivid red mark at the corner of his eye.
"Big brother, what about now? Will you still raise me?"
