When Lu Shujin was little, she received a rose. Unfortunately, before the two girls had a chance to exchange names, she moved away and never lived there again.
For the next decade or so, whenever Lu Shujin saw flowers, she thought of that rose, until one day at the airport, she spotted Lin Jiagui standing with a book balanced on her head as punishment.
"I found you."
Lin Shujin grew up surrounded by the air force, and all her friends were unreliable pilots who never knew if they would make it back once they took off. She got a cat to keep her company. The cat was more dependable than the pilots: not only could it find its own way home, it even brought Lin Jiagui a girlfriend along with it.
Lu Shujin gave Lin Jiagui a potted rose. The next time she saw the plant, it was completely bare. Someone had plucked the rose. Furious, Lu Shujin yelled at Lin Jiagui:
"How could you just give my rose away to someone else?"
"Lin Jiagui, you idiot! There isn't a bigger fool in the whole world than you!"
In her heart, Lin Jiagui cursed her jerk of a brother. If he wanted to pursue a girl, he should do it himself. How could he use someone else's little girlfriend's token of affection to woo his sister-in-law? No wonder he couldn't win her over.
Later, Lin Jiagui planted a whole sea of roses for Lu Shujin. Every rose in it belonged to Lu Shujin, but Lu Shujin still liked Lin Jiagui best, because she was her one-of-a-kind rose.

The rose I gave you will wither, but I won't. The fragrance of roses will fade away, but my love for you will not. ——Wozki Biander
